On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Oxy students were consumed by the Election. The Bengal Bus offered shuttles to polling locations. Programming Board, the Office of Student Life and ORSL set up a viewing in Samuelson Pavillion to follow the election results. Students campaigned in the quad for the various propositions on the California ballot. Through an epic two year campaign leading up to one of the most important elections in U.S. history, students have been taking action. Approximately 300 students gathered in the Cooler to watch the Election results as they came in on Tuesday Nov. 4 until CNN declared Barack Obama the winner at approximately 8 p.m. Following the declaration of Obama’s projected victory over McCain, the Cooler erupted with cheers of “Yes we can!” and “Obama!” as Occidental students celebrated their candidate’s victory in the election, and the jubilation continued on and through Obama’s acceptance speech at 9 p.m.
