In last week’s article, “College Continues Hiring Despite GA Resolution,” I was not shocked to find the students’ voices not being heard. I strongly believe Jessica Simes and Laura Knuttunen are going beyond their position to stress the point of the students’ voices being heard and validated by following through with these resolutions. This makes me question the legitimacy of this student government and the power of its student leaders. I have always seen ASOC as a prettied-up buffer, or Public Relations group. I am glad to hear Ms. Simes and Ms. Knuttunen are giving the “administration,” yes I said it, hell because they need a little nudge at times.
I would like to also stress the importance of getting other organizations involved in this dialogue such as Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). I am sure there is dialogue taking place between these organizations; however, it seems to not be public.
