Through out this year I have been increasingly disappointed with the renovations made to Wylie. In particular, the lack of functionality in the doors is bothersome. I am quite upset that it has been a month since the computer lab door has become dysfunctional. For weeks there has been a notice saying “Do not close the door due to the lack of function.” Unfortunately, someone locked the door this week (I am also upset that students can’t follow instructions), which was bound to happen eventually, but now residents can’t gain access to the printers. This a major annoyance for anyone needing to complete school work, especially since there are times the library’s computers can’t be accessed.
Also, the main doors to gain access to the Wylie lobby have not been properly functioning since their installment. One pair refuses to open either from the inside or outside. The automatic pair periodically does not open or open fully. In a school obsessed with safety, this a major fire hazard. This is especially true if students are looking to exit towards through these doors. In addition to the safety hazards of this building, it is entirely energy inefficient. Many of the windows do not properly close. They leak cold or hot air from the rooms causing the heating and air-conditioning units to expend more energy than necessary. Some of the windows do not have any mechanisms to close them. Thus, they are constantly open.
If this was any other housing system I would have every right to break the lease and move out, but unfortunately I have prepaid for my time here at Wylie.
