I am highly disappointed with the way the current first years are being treated. The fact that so many of them arrived in rooms lacking keys and furniture is unacceptable. Why is it that simple services can’t be provided in a timely matter?

In addition to this housing issue is one regarding the water in Haines. It took three days for someone to notify the residents about the lack of water, and once we we’re contacted the information we were given was vague. We were given no timeline for when the water would be turned on. Why did it take so long for information to be given to the students? And why couldn’t facilities, campus safety, or housing services contact us via email? They contacted the RAs but didn’t give them the full story.

It wasn’t until Monday that we found out from the cleaning staff that the water in the annex was on a different system. If I was a first-year living in Haines or one of the First Year Res Halls I would be highly upset, if I was the parent of a first year I would be extremely angry. But such is life at Oxy, as most students sadly know.
