Extended hours for the Samuelson Pavilion, which will now be open to students until 2 a.m., kicked off Thursday, March 8 as part of a larger effort to convert the space into a student union over the next ten years. In a combined effort with the Occidental Residence Hall Association, ASOC Senate and Student Affairs, the kick-off included music as well as an In-N-Out truck that distributed nearly 450 free burgers to students.
“We wanted to have an opening to let people know and raise awareness about what’s going on at the Cooler,” Campus Wide Senator Amy Laslett (junior) said. “A kick-off let students know we’re doing stuff for the Cooler.” Laslett, along with Alison Dempsey (sophomore) and Daniel Miller (sophomore), have been working to make the Tiger Cooler a more student-friendly space. They hope to create a wall devoted to student art as well as a wall dedicated to Oxy paraphernalia by the end of this semester.
