We congratulate — and thank — the Black Student Alliance (BSA) for the inspiring “Keeping the Dream Alive” march, panel discussion, and candlelight vigil last night. We have not seen such a lively, engaged event on campus for some time. The panelists, Profs. Ford, Naylor, and Dreier, responding to thought-provoking comments and questions by Prof. Freer, offered a critical balance between celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, expanding on limited interpretations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and calling all of us to act in order to continue the movement for justice.

We look forward to engaging with BSA, OCE and ORSL (the event’s co-sponsors), and other student organizations and offices throughout the year to take up the call to work for justice and equity on campus and beyond.
