No, Emma Parker, I won’t give Communism a chance. In theory, Communism is not a “great idea.” In fact, it’s a terrible idea. What you may perceive as a “stateless and classless society” is actually a society where the class, state, and culture is completely intertwined. Human nature does not allow everyone to work for the common good because we are self-interested. How does someone even define the “common good?” Because the state decides how administrative matters are carried out, isn’t the common good essentially biased?

Granted, Communism may not always end in Stalinist purges or Maoist suppression, but in a Communist society, culture is prescribed, not produced. That’s the most painful thing about the whole system. Lacking a dynamic source of individualistic ideas is a dangerous thing and a detriment to the progression of any society. Think about art. There’s not common good to be served. Enforcing a message of common good in art renders all art propaganda. Say goodbye to artistic freedom while you still have the chance to say what you like.
