Students are jumping at the chance to join Oxy’s hip-hop class, the newest addition to the school’s dance selection.

Thus far the class is getting great responses from students. It’s a time for the dancers to have fun and let loose while learning new styles and dancing to hip-hop music. Thanks to the class, Oxy students now have an additional outlet for indulging their hip-hop itch. Quite a few dancers at Oxy used to take the time to go into L.A. for dance classes with some of the best troops in the country. Instead of having to venture into the city to find such resources, Oxy is now bringing the best to us.

On Feb. 4, former “America’s Best Dance Crew” (ABDC) contestant Cass “T. Ranchula” Smith was invited to teach the class for a day. “ABDC” is an MTV television show that showcases America’s most talented street dance crews. The 23-year-old dance professional has worked with a variety of stars, including Jennifer Lopez.

Although his time on ABDC with Miami dance crew Live in Color was short-lived, his years of experience fusing urban funk, hip-hop, jazz and African dance gave the class a once in a lifetime opportunity to dance with a professional.
