We’d like to take this opportunity to thank a few people involved in the Battle in the Bowl, which was held last Friday the 16th. First, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Kenna Cottrill, without whose unceasing support this event would never have happened. Kenna’s commitment to KOXY and the Battle in the Bowl as we originally envisioned it went a long way to making the event as successful as it was. Along with Kenna, we need to thank OSL staff and PAs—Karina Viaud, Tiffanee Hopf, Robin Hamilton, Trevor Fay, and Aron Shimeles—who were incredibly helpful the whole day of the event, in whatever capacity necessary. We also want to thank Student Affairs staff members Brandi Jones, Kecia Baker, and Bobby Rodgers for working the door and assisting Campus Safety. We also owe a great deal of thanks to the Campus Events Advisory Committee, who were supportive and helpful despite their hesitations.
In particular, we should thank Rebecca Dowling for going above and beyond her duties the entire week of the event to ensure that our performers were insured. Jim Tranquada’s support and help with neighbor relations was also highly valued. It almost goes without saying that the facilities crew and Campus Safety officers performed their jobs perfectly, but we still want to take a moment and thank them for their help. Holly Nieto and Lt. Joe Cunje were terrifically amenable to what were often difficult and unusual requests, and without them this event would have been much more difficult to put on.
Finally, we want to thank everyone who showed up and waited an hour despite technical difficulties for what we are confident you found to be an excellent show. Without our audience, KOXY would be nothing, and we are deeply appreciative. We hope that we can put on more shows of this size in the future, and we hope to see all of you there.
