I’m bringing back the life of “Letters to the Editor.” We need to get more letters, I’m bored of not seeing any. I’m taking care of that. It’s been a while. So here are the things that have been very interesting on campus. I’m going to speak my mind. Bring it on. I can’t wait till I hear the response criticism. Grammatical and personal.
–Why are the buildings so cold when it’s freezing outside? Would it kill the College to turn up the heat? I’m so cold in the Cooler. I’m freezing in the buildings. As if it isn’t enough that my dorm doesn’t have heat.
–Why did the faculty or “administration” get rid of Susan Prager? Why does the “administration” think it’s OK to leave us, once again, without a President? Don’t even think about talking about interim Presidents, we need a REAL President, not some “substitute teacher.”
–Blind Item: What faculty member recently said that Prager allegedly said “Queer issues are more important than race issues on campus?” Another example I noticed of how society pits minorities against each other. Hint: Prager isn’t the one initiating the hostility between the minorities.
–What recent student called Palestine and the Arab countries an “Oasis of Filth”? Here’s the direct quote:
“Criticizing Israel has become the cool thing to do in socially conscious environments. After all, even the dumbest shmuck can draw three observations: 1) Palestine is dirt poor 2) Israel is very prosperous 3) The two parties have been at war for a long time. Now, we have three terms that MUST in some way be connected. The easiest connection, which is drawn in ignorant wanna-be superliberal circles, is that the war is a means for Israel to suppress Palestine. This linkage is ridiculous, but since it’s so accessible to the dumbest of dumb idiots, it is reiterated over and over and over again. Look at history: Israelis have invested tremendously in their economy over the past 60 years. They raised themselves by their own bootstraps to become an oasis in a sea of filth.” (Facebook 2007)

–What recent student wore a Arab face themed costume for Halloween?
–What student accused me of watching stereotypical Arabic news stations (Because I’m Arabic) when I was talking about politics? By the way I do not watch these stereotypical news stations. It was a prejudiced, racist assumption. The quote:
“Sammy, I recommend you get your news from more objective news sources other than Al Jazeera and Arabiya.”
That assumption gives me a tickle to my tummy every time I think about it. The wonders of Occidental College! Behold the intelligence of its students! Bow down to these students’ “Whiteness”! Or should I say “Stupidity”? You decide.
–Recently the library received new laptops. Is it OK for someone who has a computer to rent them when they know that others don’t have the means to own laptops and need this campus resource?
–What group thinks that putting sleeping bags in front of the Marketplace emulates being homeless? With food from the Marketplace, extension cords for their laptops, shelter, and free from harassment from the cops etc. Is that what its like to be homeless? Hmmmmmm . . .
–Why does one “organization/department” on campus think it’s OK to give almost all of our “money” to three dances on campus? Yes, three dances.
–Why is it OK for certain students to trash the dorms, while drunk? To trash our community? Unacceptable.
Debate my position as a student leader on campus. Call me distasteful, outrageous, inconsiderate, mean, etc. I honestly do not care. I refuse to be silenced over and over and over. I will speak whenever seems necessary. Isn’t that what the First Amendment allows me to do? What? There should be some respect regardless of there being a First Amendment? Burn Sammy at the stake for stimulating others to think. Boo Sammy for not being silent.
But regardless of my outrageousness, continue to silence yourselves. I won’t.
