Q: Does Emmons offer free testing for HIV and STDs? If not, where should I go for free testing?

A: Unfortunately, Emmons does not offer free HIV/STD testing. If you have student insurance you can get reimbursed-but if not, they do charge. There are options for free testing though! The Planned Parenthood Express Clinic is right on Colorado, just past Trader Joe’s. Although walk-ins are welcome, I’d recommend an appointment for faster service. Just call (323) 256-1717. If you’d rather not be seen going into the Planned Parenthood right around the corner from Oxy, there is another clinic on 1045 N. Lake Avenue; you can reach them at (626) 798-0706. There’s also a public health clinic on 241 N. Figueroa St. in downtown Los Angeles, which I believe requires an appointment. Just call them at (213) 240-8203. Free clinics like these encourage anyone who’s sexually active to get tested often, so take advantage of them! Frequent testing ensures that you and your partner are having safe sex, and the more confident you are about your health, the better the sex will be.

Q: Any recommendations for vibrators?

A: Well, there’s definitely not a lack of options out there! For starters, there’s internal, external, battery-operated, AC-operated, hands-free. . . not to mention the various choices of colors, styles, and shapes. The most common are insertable vibrators. These are shaped like a phallus and, as the title suggests, are meant for insertion. They range anywhere from tiny and barely noticeable to more than 10-inches and a little more obtrusive. All are meant to vibrate pleasantly and are intended for personal pleasure.

The most popular vibrator by far is the Rabbit. Not only does it vibrate, but the head of it rotates and a rabbit attachment at the base vibrates against the clitoris. For more information on the Rabbit visit its website at therabbitvibrator.com. Now, if you’re looking for something to use with a partner, there are products out there. Obviously there are strap-ons and dildoes. Also, vibrating rings shake things up a bit during intercourse, and I think you’ll find most guys open to the idea. Enjoy!
