Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Founded in 1899 as Hollywood Cemetery, Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the most beautifully haunting place in Los Angeles. Peacocks graze over the graves of Hollywood royalty laid to rest there, such as Judy Garland, Cecil B. DeMille, Mickey Rooney, Mel Blanc, Virginia Rappe, Johnny Ramone, and Chris Cornell. On September 5, 1921 at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, silent film stars Virginia Rappe and Roscoe “Fatty” Archbuckle were at the same Labor Day weekend party. Rapple wasn’t feeling well and went into a separate room, and Archbuckle followed her, locking the door behind him. What exactly happened next is unknown, but he most likely violently raped her, causing a punctured bladder and Peritonitis, resulting in her agonizing death four days later at 26 years-old. Virginia Rappe is commonly sighted crying around the lake. Additionally, in 1920 the cemetery sold 40 of its 100 acres to build the infamous Paramount Studios. Workers there have repeatedly reported sightings of figures in period clothing disappearing into walls.
