Austin Lashley

Austin Lashley (sophomore) shone at the Occidental-Chapman swim meet Feb. 6 with three overall first-place finishes. He also set his in-season best time in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 52.64.

“My favorite part of swimming is the competition aspect of the sport,” Lashley said via email. “But I think a universal struggle most swimmers have is getting up every morning ready to engage in and push through a 7,000 yard, 6 a.m. practice. I have learned that to be a successful swimmer you have to push your hardest throughout every practice because when your body hurts the most, you’re also improving the most.”

Erin Matsumoto

Erin Matsumoto (sophomore) was one of two leading scorers for the Tigers on Feb. 6. She exhibited prime ball handling skills throughout the game, scoring 12 points.

“I’ve been playing basketball since I was in the second grade, and from then on, I’ve really just grown to love it,” Matsumoto said via email. “That process of forming really strong relationships with my teammates is that extra factor that makes the sport that much more enjoyable and memorable.”
