I am writing with profound disappointment concerning the quality of the crossword puzzles in the Weekly. Normally, I enjoy a good brain-teaser—one that’s just challenging enough to make me frustrated, but just easy enough to leave me hooked. I’ll work away at one all day if I have to. So, imagine my consternation when I found that all eight clues of this last week’s puzzle were solved using the same four words. ‘What’s this?’ I thought. ‘Where is the wordplay, the challenge, the joy of success or the agony of defeat?’ Mr. Laufer, you are not clever, just lazy. You also made a grammatical error. Furthermore, you misspelled Kofi Annan’s name in a puzzle two weeks ago. And you’re a DWA major. Stunning. What am I supposed to do with my day now that the Weekly puzzles can be solved in 14 seconds (the actual time that a friend took), and the school no longer offers free copies of the NY Times? I am officially calling for the dismissal of Justin Laufer as the Puzzle Editor of the Weekly. There, I said it.
